Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa, located in the north of Sri Lanka, was the second medieval capital of the country after Anuradhapura. Founded in the 11th century, it became the capital under the reign of several Sinhalese kings, thriving as a political, economic, and cultural center. The city is renowned for its well-preserved historic monuments, including the ruins of palaces, temples, and beautifully sculpted Buddhist stupas. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Polonnaruwa attracts visitors from around the world for its rich cultural heritage and impressive ancient architecture.
