Galle
Galle, a port city located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, has a rich history dating back to antiquity. Known to Greeks, Romans, Arabs, and Chinese for its natural harbor, it thrived as a center for the spice and gemstone trade. The Portuguese built the Galle Fort in 1588, which was later fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century. Under British rule, Galle continued to develop while retaining its colonial charm. Today, the Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site, reflecting its historical past and cultural significance.
